My parents are getting divorced

Obviously, this is not fun. But unfortunately, as a child, you cannot legally do anything against this, but you can be heard.

When your parents decide to divorce, though, you can always say what you want.

If your parents divorce in court, the judge may decide to hear you. This means you have a conversation with the judge in which he or she asks you questions about your home situation, which parent you want to stay with after the divorce, where you want to go to school and so on. A judge is not obliged to do everything you ask or want but they will take this into account as best they can.

Do I need a lawyer?

If the judge decides to chat with you about the divorce, a lawyer can prepare you for this conversation. However, he or she may not be present during the conversation with the judge.
