Judgment in absentia
What is judgment in absentia?
A judgment in absentia at final instance can be appealed by the convicted person. This is therefore not an appeal. An appeal is lodged with the same court that pronounced the first default judgment. The substance of the case is re-examined there. However, certain conditions and deadlines must be respected in order to lodge an appeal. A lawyer can assist you in this.
